Katherine, our creative director, named a son after her great-great-great grandfather, a notoriously salty Coast Guard Captain. On a recent visit to her ancestral homeplace, she visited his gravesite to introduce that tiny namesake. She was struck by the worn stone markers that were as much a part of the ground as the bright green summer grass and white clover that grew around them. The plot was protected, somewhat precariously by a rusting iron gate and fence. Garden Gate Licorice traces the outlines of that stalwart gate and we think the weathered gray and the iron black give depth to our palette of grassy greens and floral pinks and reds.
